WEIRD AND WONDERFUL WOOLY WORKSHOPS!!
At Craftspun Yarns, The Mill, Johnstown, Naas, Co. KildareCome and spend a few hours exploring the magic of felt making in a unique creative and stimulating environment.
Tactile, colourful and versatile, these classes are easy for the complete beginner and endlessly rewarding for the seasoned artist.
They are particularly suitable for teachers wanting to explore the fabric and fibre strand of the arts curriculum and to introduce wool to their students.
Liadain De Buitlear is also available to come to your school and tailor projects which suit your individual requirements. All materials can be supplied.
All equipment, materials and refreshments are provided as part of the course fee.
As places are limited booking is essential.
Craftspun Yarns stocks all materials and some inspiring books, for felt making and knitting, which can be purchased at the store for further projects you may like to try at home.

2010 SCHEDULE OF COURSES
All courses are on Saturdays from 10 am to 2pmFelt is a non-woven fabric formed when wool fibres lock together as a result of the application of heat moisture and pressure or agitation.
The bonding of wool fibres when they form into felt is called felting.
Saturday 10th April 2010
Make your own designer handbag using wet felting techniques.
We will be designing and making handbags using different colours and wool fibres such as silk/alpaca/wensleydale. We will also be making handles for the bags.The bags can then by embellished using hand embroidery and beading.(at home)
The course will cover the following wet felting techniques:
Making a bag using plastic resist (no seams)
Making ropes/coils for the handle
The workshop needs a minimum of 6 participants to proceed.

FOR ALL FELTMAKING WORKSHOPS ..Please bring a large towel, a water bottle too and a small bamboo blind or a sushi mat if you have one!
As the classes sometimes run over in time you are advised to bring lunch or there is a fantastic deli located next door for snacks.

Fabulous Flower Workshop
We will be making flowers using different colours and wool fibres such as silk/alpaca/wensleydale.These beautiful and colourful flowers can be used as brooches, corsages or even to decorate the garden!!Wet felting techniques will be used to create 2 dimensional daisies and 3 dimensional lilies with stems. Use any colours and let your imagination go..
The workshop needs a minimum of 6 participants to proceed.

Beginners felt making and Wet felt making
Students on this course will learn the basics of felt making, including how to lay out the fibres for flat pieces and how to decorate the surface in a variety of ways, with other fibres and pre felts.
3D Balls, cones ,flowers and snakes will be made.
Please bring a large towel, a water bottle and a small bamboo blind or a sushi mat if you have one!
The workshop needs a minimum of 6 participants to proceed.

Knitting is not just for Needles..
In this knitting workshop you will learn how to dye our natural wool using food colouring and a microwave, use knitting dollies for French tubular knitting and master finger knitting ,which is a fantastic thing to teach kids ages 5 +A basic materials pack of the finest natural fibres will be provided as part of the course fee. More materials to take home, can be purchased from Craftspun Yarns at The Mill ,Johnstown.

Design and make a felt and silk scarf-Beginners Nuno feltmaking
In this 4 hour workshop we will be combining fine merino wool tops and silk chiffon to create your own designer nuno felt scarf. Nuno felt is a Japanese technique whereby wool and silk are fused to make your own unique piece of fabric.
The workshop needs a minimum of 6 participants to proceed.

Machine knitting
Do you have a knitting machine in your shed or attic and have no idea how to use it?Then this is the course for you...
Learn the basics of machine knitting from setting up your machine to casting on/off and basic shaping on the single bed.
Please contact us if you are interested in taking part in this course.
It is proposed for a full day 10am to 4pm at a cost of €90 per head.
You will need to bring your own knitting machine and all yarn will be supplied by us.
